A Good City AI Ecosystem: What are we not talking about?
Everyone’s talking about AI in cities right now.
Pilots. Use cases. Scaling. Procurement.
But if we’re honest, much of the conversation still feels safe - focused on delivery and implementation, rather than the real impact on work, people and the kind of future we’re creating. Through a structured, Oxford-style debate across two themes - Work and Jobs and Human Impact - we’ll explore some of the questions that are often left out of the conversation:
What should AI infrastructure for creative industries look like — and who should it benefit?
How is AI reshaping jobs, skills and the future of work in cities?
How are people increasingly making decisions with and through AI systems?
What does this mean for mental health, trust, confidence and everyday life?
This is not a typical panel event. Prepare to be challenged by contrasting perspectives!
Together, we’ll pause, reflect and ask: Are we building the kind of AI city we actually want?

People Powered AI: Showcase & Next Steps
Join us to learn more about Manchester's pioneering People's Panel for AI, and understand its implications for delivery in public service and beyond.
Manchester City Council are one of the first Councils to incorporate the voice of residents and people in its decision making around AI. The Manchester's People Panel for AI is a group of residents from different walks of life empowered with knowledge on data ethics, bias, and algorithmic transparency who generously offered their expertise to consequence scan and questions the use of AI public facing services.
With the first set of People's Panels complete, we're excited to share the key learnings, benefits and impact of the Panel's activities.
In this first sharing session, the project team will share the how, what and why behind the People's Panel, our first round of presenters will share what they've learned from the experience, and finally, we’ll pitch what the future of the Panel could look like.
