INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
Enhancing Manchester’s visibility as a leading digital city by engaging with tech sector events in the UK and beyond.
To shape a digital future that benefits everybody, our voice must reach beyond the UK. Conversations are conducted on the international stage that reverberate through digital communities world-wide, inspiring profound shifts in the digital landscape.
Doing Digital Together prioritises the future of our city, but to affect meaningful change, our sights must be set further afield. Isolation from international and global digital communities deprives us of valuable opportunities for learning and collaboration and compromises our ability to reach an audience beyond our local context.
If we can take advantage of our platform, Manchester’s enduring reputation as a thriving, rapidly expanding tech hub empowers us to influence the global conversation on digital strategy. By championing our strategy’s key priorities on the international stage, we can promote a people centric approach that prioritises societal and environmental good. Our engagement with the broader digital ecosystem enables us to influence thinking around digital on a much wider scale and lend support to initiatives that are most likely to make a tangible difference to the lives of everyday people.
Over the last two years, the Digital Strategy team has been an active participant in a range of world-leading digital events, including the Eurocities Digital Forum and the Smart City World Congress. Actively engaging with international digital leaders is hugely important to growing our relationships with stakeholders beyond the UK and fostering diverse partnerships. Exposure to cutting edge research deepens our digital knowledge and expertise and can inspire innovative solutions to key societal challenges.
“Doing Digital Together prioritises the future of our city, but to affect meaningful change, our sights must be set further afield.”
Our learning from international visits contributes directly to the delivery of Doing Digital Together and our vision for a pioneering, inclusive, connected city that is fully immersed in the digital world. The Eurocities Digital forum highlighted tools for digital twins developed under the Digital Europe Programme, leading to collaboration with Digital Futures at the University of Manchester to develop and lead a public world café event on digital twins and visualisation. Our participation as an exhibitor at the Smart City Expo World Congress enabled us to explore replicable projects, build valuable relationships, and share our approach with an international audience, strengthening Manchester’s reputation as a leading authority within the wider digital community.
Our engagement with international events empowers us with the knowledge and connections to amplify our impact in Manchester and beyond. We believe that Doing Digital Together has the potential to transform lives for the better. Harnessing opportunities to influence the international approach to digital is therefore not only beneficial to advancing our thematic priorities, but a moral imperative. By advocating for more inclusive and ethical digital practices on a global scale, we can create a more equitable and sustainable digital future for all.
