Helping patients get online
COVID 19 caused a rapid switch to digital services for GP practices across the UK.
In response MHCC created the Manchester GP Digital Development Team to address the implications of going online for local people. The Digital Facilitators in the team are there to offer highly-skilled support to GP practices across the city.
An opportunity arose to work with a Flu Jab clinic and a Roadshow style event took place at Barlow Medical Centre on Saturday 2nd October.
MHCC, Manchester City Council (MCC), Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES), Citizens Advice Manchester (CAM) and the Manchester GP Digital Development team all attended the event to offer advice, help and support to everyone who turned up.
In total 20 patients signed up for support to download and use the NHS App and 328 people passed through the area to receive a flu jab that day.
MHCC coordinated the event. MAES attended to promote the broad scope of digital skills courses they are running from venues across the city. CAM were highlighting the Energy Priority Services Register and raising awareness of their support services. And MHCC’s GP Development Team were there to support patients to register online with their GP practice and to promote the NHS App.
This first roadshow has been incredibly insightful, telling us that:
coming together as a team of services worked well to promote a unified offering across the city
engaging with people as challenging due to a cramped venue and tight scheduling
more take-away promotional materials would have benefited all partners
a significant number of people who attended had not heard of any of the services but responded with interest
Get involved
The partners are now looking for community events where they can come along and run a similar event. If you would like to get involved or to find out more, please contact Annie Cunningham, MHCC’s Digital Inclusion and Engagement Lead: a.cunningham7@nhs.net
